Question Heads are off, what's best method for cleaning carbon off tops of pistons?

My heads are off, and I have 90K miles worth of carbon build-up on my pistons! What's the best way to remove it? I have a lil spare time to really clean them up, cause I'm still waiting for our piston notching tool to come back from a customer we lent it to.

I always use a small air grinder with "scotch brite" pads that are about 1.5in in diameter and clean the tops of each piston with them. It also removes the old HG material very well too.

Exactly what GOMER said! I just performed what he described. You can buy the Scotch Brite Pads at most Automotive Parts store..it come with a bit attachment to stick in the drill (I used a Pnuematic hi speed drill)and some pads that screw into the bit. Work fantastic cost me $12.00. You can tape off the water jackets and cover anything you don't want debris into. It is messy. I rotated each cylinder to Top Dead Center and then went to work on them...it seemed like there was .010 worth of carbon build up on top of my pistons. Even with a check valve in my PCV....I am now going to completely remove the PCV and vent to atmosphere. PCV is Bull ****.

Dude its not cool you can broadcast computer information with that little deal.

Lol.....Humpin is right, whoever is looking at it, it's only showing their information, not just yours to everyone else. Like when I look at it, it shows me mine!
