Default Eagle Cranks and Pilot Bearing??

Just finishing up my 408 and I found out the stock pilot bearing does not fit right, slides in and out by hand.. Anyone heard of this or know what pilot bearing to use for the eagle crank??

edit: apparently eagle says that it should use the stock pilot bearing, but pilot bearings have different tolerances and some will fit better than others..hmmm

Man, that sucks. Mic the ID of the pilot bearing space on the crank and start heading to NAPA to find out that'll fit. Also, mic the OD of the input shaft on the tranny, the portion that slides into the pilot bearings ID.

Tried a new pilot bearing as suggested by Eagle and it fits exactly the same way.. I can push it in with my thumb and pull it out w/ my pinkie.. too many suprizes for me

Worst part it, its a complete long block now b/c Eagle said it work..

btw this is the same crank that had to clearanced once already..

anyone have any ideas?

Call eagle and tell them they're full of ****. I bet 99 out of 100 pilot bearings would be just as loose.

what would be the possible result of a pilot bearing fitting as I have described if finalized in a running vehicle?

Noise, the grinding down of the bearing, metal shards from the grindage, when the bearing gets bad enough you'll wish you did it right, right now. It sucks to have to pull it apart for a stupid bearing, escpecially on a C5.

If you have an MN6 it'll destroy your transmission.

Have a local machine shop make one on a lathe. Probly will run you $60. Normal shop rate. Might want to make 50 or 60 of them, you will probly have a market for them. If you need material spec. let me know.

Yep...this is the same crank I posted about earlier that had to have the counterweights shaved down to clear the piston skirts Peter, if I would have thought of it, I would have checked it before sending teh short blovk down to you. We will get it sorted out. Call Steve at Kammers directly and ask him to contact Eagle for a new crank. I will walk you through pulling the crank and installing the other one.

Well heres what Allen at Eagle told me directly this afternoon...

The crank was honed .001 too much and that lock tite as well as possibly dinging the end of the crank would solve the problem.. I'm giving the lock tite a try only because he gave me his word that would solve the problem.. I will let it sit and check it out tomorrow afternoon.. A friend of mine with lots of experience from a local shop will check it out and we'll go from there. It's been a real pain so far..

BTW steve said to give it a try as well.. Not too mention a few others from well known shops..

The eagle crank is not hollow so atleast no needle bearings or pieces of the bearing can enter the crank/motor... thats good I guess..

I would hope they know what they are tlaking about. If Steve backed him up, then I say go for it, but it's your call really. If you have the word of Eagle and two machine shops, I'd say it is worth a try.

Have the bushing knurled on the outside and use green lock tight to hold it in.
This will raise the serface .002 or .004 thousands.
