Why does my 2000 T/A run like a 2000 GT?
This is my 3rd LS1 car. My last one was a 2001 SS with a TNT kit on it, and it ran fairly good, even when it was stock. Now I have a 2000 T/A WS6 and it is a true TURD! So, I put a small cam in it and had the heads ported and milled. I haven't recieved my LS1 edit yet or my headers but still, my car is soooooo sllllloooooooowwwwww! Will headers and tuning help out that much?
What happens when a car runs rich? I got on it on the interstate yesterday and I looked up and saw some black crap come out. I need some opinions so if you have time, please give me your 2 cents worth. Thanks for helping!

is your car a4 or m6? why do a camshaft without some nice longtubes....if you do a small cam without longtubes it will get you about the same horsepower as a set of full length headers with some true duals, you cant keep that motor choked up with manifolds

who is this? I see you are close. yes tuning and headers will make a big difference. You are getting more air in but very little out.

I made 393rwhp through stock manifolds, cats, and mufflers (with heads, and cam), so I dont think headers is the magical answer.
However, this conversation cant really go anywhere with no data. Have you dyno'd it? Have you raced another stock ls1 side by side from a roll? Have you taken it to the strip? Dont think people will be able to help too much without something to go on. And some black carbon coming out at WOT is normal....black clouds of smoke every time you go full throttle isnt.

Thee is a big horsepower difference between the 2000 and 2001 cars. As far as I know the 2001 had the LS6 intake, better cam, and better stock manifolds than the 99 (not totally sure on the manifolds). I've seen 40 rwhp difference on the same dyno between those two model years, though.

Better intake and manifolds really helped the 2001 and 2002 cars.
The 2000 had the same manifolds but didn't work as well.
I dont recall a bigger cam myself but I've been wrong before.
We need dyno numbers or track numbers to give the best advise.
Also the cam specs and what kind of heads would also help. (who ported them, LS1's?, LS6's?, 5.3's? etc.)
Also other mods will help. A4 or M6, ported TB?, Z06 intake?, MAF?, rearend and gear ratio etc..... I am guessing it is a M6 with a 342 stock rear with a LS1 intake, and stock bolton's. You probally have a air lid and maybe a MAF sensor.
But I am just guessing. More info would help.
IMHO I am gonna say your answer lies in your tune.
Get a custom tune and get some real results. (Headers and exhaust would help as well)

I personally saw a CAM-ONLY car make 39 rwhp over stock exhaust with the addition of Mac headers/ORP and a cutout WITHOUT a tune. Proceded to make 11 more w/ the tune....
To say that headers aren't a big priority is completely incorrect. Building a motor from the inside out is like building a house from the roof down......You can't build a stronger air pump without proper breathing.....You got the point...
As for the question at hand. Have you done any maint. to the car? Plugs? Wires? Fuel Filter? Might wanna run a compression check on the motor to make sure the cylinders are still tight....

I ran a slightly modded lt1 w/ 6 speed and mine is a M6 too, before any mods. I won by 3/4 car. After heads, cam, NGK plugs....NO air lid, headers, tuning, exhaust upgrades, or anything else we ran again and i won by about 1/2 a car so practically no speed gains. I haven't had any dyno pulls and I'm waiting on my LS1 edit and headers before I make any pulls. I just thought that even with h/c I would make some difference. I do understand about what ya'll say about the air flow in and out of the motor.
cam is comp 224/224 .581/.581 112lsa +2
heads were prted by guy locally
thanks for your time and hopefully after I get my headers and LS1 Edit I'll find out whether or not to keep this blue turd! Thanks for the info!
