Default low compression cylinder #5

Ive had low compression on cylinder number #5 for about a year now.

whats the best way to fix this? can i just replace the piston etc just on that cylinder and i will be ok? or is it not that easy? should i get the whole bottom end done at once?

basically also asking can it be fixed without the engine coming out.

thanks!

Yea you can fix it without the motor out, you should take the head off and see if you have a bent valve, but first Check your pushrods to see if any are bent.If you have a bad ring on that cylinder you can drop in a new piston with rings without removing the motor if you want to try.

Put number five cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke. Apply air to the cylinder. Open the T.B. listen for air if you have alot of air either bent or chipped intake valve is the problem. Listen for alot of air comming from the exhaust if so either bent or chipped exhaust valve. Take the oil cap off there will be a small amount of air coming out but if you have a large amount of air coming from the oil hole you have bad rings.

Just went through this on another thread.....get a leakdown tester and leak the WHOLE motor. The last thing you want to do is fix the one when the others are close behind!
