Default 5.3 Questions for Texas-Speed

I am building a 5.3L engine for a hot rod project. I am wanting to build a fairly low cost, descent HP engine. I plan on buying a set o PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L CNC heads from ya'll. Also I would like to buy a set of Wiseco -2.2cc 3.800" Flat top pistons as well. My questions are first: my rods are the stock 6.098" press fit wrist pin rods, Would I need to buy a set of of the Eagle H-beam 6.125" rods because of my piston choice? And my second question: what would be my best cam choice for a lopey idle, street drivable, but still make alot of power for auto-x and drag racing? I plan on using my stock rocker arms if possible. For an intake, I plan on running an Edelbrock Carbureted Super Victor Intake, with a Holley Ultra HP 850 or 950 Carb. Stock Crank as well. Sorry for all the info, I just wanted to make sure ya'll had all the info you needed and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Draggin' Drew

An 850 carb may be a bit big.

I would ask alot of ? before you buy anything.the stock gm rods are pretty good for what you want to do.you can get a custom cam for $425 from Patrick-G .fill out a cam request sheet from any cam company to learn what all goes into picking the best cam.a 750 quick fuel carb should meet your need.get some comp cam trunnion upgrade bearings from Texas Speed Products.

Give us a call so we can discuss all your options. Have you considered boring to a 3.900" bore like the LS engines? Also have you considered going 4" stroke for a 383? All these options need to be considered while you have the engine apart because getting back into the short-block later is a lot of work!

We can get you a 3.900"ish piston that will easily work with your rods & 5.3l crank for a 346-347cid setup.
