Default how to retorque rod/main bolts

I pulled a main and rod to inspect the bearings and they look good. What is the proper way to reuse the bolts I loosened? I know I probably shouldnt, but this is a junk yard build. When it lets go I'll build a 6.0

any info in appreciated

The main should be 15 ft/lbs on the 1st pass then an additional 80 degrees.

The outer studs are also 15 ft/lbs but 53 additional degrees.

Side bolts are 18 ft/lbs

Connecting rods are 15 ft/lbs and 75 degrees.

I think that's right, but if I'm not, I'm sure someone will let me know.

Sounds good to me. My gaskets came in today so I'll start buttoning up the bottom end this weekend

The mains and rods are 1 time use.

anything that uses a degree method is likely torque to yield which stretches the bolt and is good for only one time... subsequent uses will not yield the same clamping force and it may even break off.

^^^ Correct... Even a junkyard build deserves the courtesy of a proper TTY bolt install.

Main and rod bolts actually can be reused. They aren't TTY, but they do torque to an angle value.

yes he is correct. I torque my inner bolts(1-10) first to 16 ft/lbs, then i set the thrust bearing. then tighten innner bolts 80*. torque outer bolts(11-20) to 16 ft/lbs, then tighten outer bolts 53*. Apply RVT to side bolt (21-30)heads and top threads, apply blue lock tight to bottom of bolts and toque to 19 ft/lbs

(main bolts)

make sure your crank turns over easy as butter by hand after your torque your main caps. if it doesn't you need to set your thruster bearing again. Then you can install your rod bolts

ps main bolts are reusable

I have reused the stock rod bolts before with no problems .But would recommend new ones just for the satisfaction and cheap insurance.
