Default PTV with new heads

I am looking at a set of CNCd 243 heads to add to my LS1.
I already have a comp 228/228 .581/.581 cam ready to go in.
the chambers on the heads have been milled to 62cc.

I havent bought the heads yet because I am worried about PTV clearance. With the stock GM MLS gasket I was told that they will clear but I do not want to flycut and I do not want to have to try and resell the heads if they dont work. Anyone have any idea on this combo. Since the cam is specd so close to a TSP 228R if anyone has a 228R in a 62cc LS6 head please chime in.

Thanks

Well I want to first start off by saying measure for your self no matter what any one says.

Ok now with that being said I have a TSP 228R cam currently installed in my 2000 trans am WS6. Heads have been milled to 58cc and I did not fly cut the pistons at all. I used the stock MLS head gaskets from sd's website.

thats good to know. i have decided to not attempt this myself but will be taking everything to anitvenom in tampa too install it all but there is a big difference between measuring just to be sure and getting a phone call because my new cam and heads wont work with each other. it is nice to have a little assurance that the parts will work before you spend the money on them rather than buying twice and then trying to recoup.

No Guarantee's because every car is diff but from my experience above with my car I would say you should be OK.

Good luck with your build!!!

It really depends on when the exhaust closes and when the intake opens relative to the piston being at TDC on the exhaust stroke. I have the 224/228 cam from AFR and the heads were milled to the equivalent of 60cc (Tony took 2 cc from each chamber to unshroud the valves so I ended up with 62 cc). My intake valve was under the recommended minimum of 0.080". However, since the intake chases the piston when it opens I am less dependent on the valve springs for this situation. If you are trying for minimums, you may be tight and will only find out when you measure. There is more forgiveness on the intake valve than the exhaust.

I am thinking of passing on them just in case and going with a stock chamber 65cc head instead just to be on the safe side. I really dont want to buy a smaller cam or even another set of heads. I know that stock 243 heads will work with the 228R cam so if i have to sacrifice a little bit of compression and hp to make sure that everything works together, so be it.

Measure during assembly to be safe, however, my bet is you will have plenty of clearance.
