Default engine question

I had a motor built by a local shop. The motor is built for boost, they used a steal top ring kit and they said it will use between1-2 quarts of oil between oil changes(depending on how heavy my right foot gets) because of the steal top rings they used. Was wondering is this norman and why this is because they couldn't give me a straight answer as to why it does this.

nope not normal, sounds like they are trying to cover up for a shity job they did. i would make them fix it or get your money back. call TSP as they use a top Steel ring for all their Weisco piston packages, they have had no complaints yet

I would like to think they wouldn't do that. Could the rings not have seated?

if they did not break in the rings correctly then yes this could happen due to excessive wear, either way sounds like the builder is at fault. you need to contact them and get it fixed

Ok I had the motor built while I was gone last summer. I haven't had any problems with it so idk if they would fix something that was done that long ago.

The rings and ring gap Im not sure about but they said Its good for around 20+ psi

compression rings have little to do with burning oil(thats what the oil ring is for). sounds like they messed up and are feeding you **** to cover it up.

Like I said the shop I got it built at has a good name so I would hope they did it right. My only concern is they won't do anything about it because it was done a year ago. Im calling the shop tomorrow to see what there opinions are and what they can do it the ring are the problem.

Also when the shop built this, about a month after I got my car back with the 383 stroker I had them build they had t put a catch can on because they said the added crank case pressure had blew out my pcv system.

the rings are a sxf ring kit. the ring gap is fairly loose according to the shop. the motor was built for boos but has been n/a since it was done because iv been slowly doing research on which parts to get for my turbo build.
