Default Summit's 6.0l bare block, anyone know anything about it?

I like the price of $750 and appears the machine work for a 408 has already been done, but it doesnt say if its a GenIII or GenIV block. Has anyone got one or know anything about them?

There was a thread about the Summit iron block a few weeks back. I don't believe it was machined. It was a bare iron block vatted and painted. The part number above says its bored .030" over and presumably honed/crosshatched as it says "finished bore". Already has cam bearings as well as freeze plugs. That being the case it's actually not a bad deal IMO. Not great but not bad.

Summit usually has good stuff (and if not their customer service will take care of you), i've used their brand before and they're not bad.

so if its just a BLOCK, you can buy your own rotating assembly to be a 24x or 58x or does the block actually determine which one it will be?

Guess im kinda wondering what Chaos said too. Will any 6.0 iron block work with the fbodies or does it need to be a GenIII block? I know Thunder Racing specifies that the fbody cars require the GenIII block. Their description doesnt say which one it is.

5 Liter Eater, Are you positive its not machined? It said it was clearanced up to a 4" stroke and bored .030 over. These are the things Im wondering about since the website is kinda vague on its description

you CAN use a 24x crank with a gen IV block and you CAN put a gen IV block into an fbody, look into the ls2/ls3 swap stuff, there are some other small parts needed to put it in, but nothing major

Freeze plugs? Hopefully they mean the screw in coolant passage plugs & possibly the oil galley plugs.

Yes you can use a Gen 4 block in a F-car, need to relocate the knock sensors and run an LS2 front cover though. As well as run a new (flat) style valley cover. Also need to drill and tap the front alternator boss if using a truck block in a car. The iron blocks dont come drilled/tapped there from GM.

The thread I was thinking of was on yellow bullet I think and it didn't seem like the one mentioned there was machined. That one mentioned above does definitely look to be machined (bored .030" over and bores finished). I donno though; A bare LQ block with main caps can be had for ~$200. Cam bearings are ~$90 installed and a bore and crosshatch is ~$200. So not a great deal, especially after shipping.

the only problem is, the 6.0l blocks arent that common around here. They usually go for anywhere between $3-500. Seems like the GenIII would just be easier and cheaper in the long run, since you wont have to convert all that little stuff. Anyway to tell the difference in the two versions?

The LY6 would have a Gen IV cast into it. It would also not have the cam sensor hole in the top of the rear of the block as it is a 4th gen block.

Sounds like I need to start collecting 6.0 iron blocks. I'm lucky to be in Houston where parts are plentiful.

Dead giveaway is knock sensor boss's in the valley (gen 3) or not (gen 4).

Imo. Its a good deal for the summit block.
It comes machined and prepped to build out of the box.

Typical prices for 6.0 usable used stock blocks is around 300-400$ for gen3/4 blocks.
The days of the less than 1000$ jy 6.0 longblocks are coming to an end. Lq4s have been stopped being built since 07.
The 6.0 LY6 does not seem to be as commonly biilt as the lq4. But i could be wrong.
I pick them up as soon as i find em.
