98 Ls1 engine with 99-01 intake and harness
Does anyone know if I can mix and match a 98 engine with an 99-01 intake and harness and use a 99-01 computer? I came up on a free harness and intake and dont want to buy a 98 harness, the harnesses from my knowledge are identical except for the 98 PCM is different.

Only difference is coolant temperature sensors. 98 has a 3 wire (feeds the computer AND gauge) and 99+ has a two wire (feeds the computer only, computer talks to the gauge cluster). Other then that, it's a direct plug in. You didn't mention a car, so I'm assuming this is for a transplant.

you dont have to.the third wire is just to simply run the coolant temp gauge in the cluster.the computer doesnt know what motor its running..it just wants to see the right inputs to control a motor in the set parameters.for my car im using a 00 ls1 and im using a 98 cts because i need the third wire for my factory gauge to work in my 87 t/a.iirc you may have to rewire the connector..but there is a guide for that around here somewhere.
