not 100% sure but it looks like a stress crack from not cleaning the headbolt holes before installing new heads (previous owner)

It's pretty deep. the two sides of the crack are different heights, 3/4 of a millimeter. I can see quite a ways into it, but light doesn't pass into the bolt hole or vice-versa. I'm trying to take some better pictures.

Thanks Jay.

I should point out that the machine shop either missed it, or failed to notify me of the crack and put my brand new clevite cam bearings in anyway.

That looks like a head bolt hole. It's toast. I'd chuck it.

There was someone looking for a bad aluminum block in the classifieds to make a table out of...
You might look him up.

That's only good for furniture now!

I'd find another machine shop unless they replace the cam bearings.

I might find another machine shop anyways...

It can be fixed but if you pay someone to do it the cost may not be worth it? We always use Fowler or Brodix to fix our crap.

I think I'm just going to use the 5.3 I have laying around. The ls1 was gonna go into a daily driver. I just need a running car since the cam in my 3.4 bit the dust. Any motor is going to be better than the 94hp that 3.4 put out.

Iron block it. I'd get some LT1 front springs to deal with the additional weight tho or it's going to be wandering all over the place.

If you end up using it try a stud on that hole. It might help?
