Cam Experts Please!
Ive been running my current combo in sig for two years and 34000 miles. Hundreds of passes at the track. Im not interested in dyno #s but rather track #s. Everyone is going with these huge cams now. My questionis, what cam do you think could improve my combo without having to flycut my pistons? My heads are milled 30 thou. and I definately dont want any P/V issues. I would like the C 2 or even the TR224 but I dont feel the improvement would be worth the swap. Your input would be great. Nineball, what do you think?? Ive been extremely happy with my current set-up, but people just keep getting faster!!!

Those are good flowing heads. i would go with a bigger cam than any of those. MTI has an X1, or if you go with an FMS cam they have a better selection and outstanding service.

I feel with the heads milled you might need to flycut to see a big gain.
Your car really seems to move for the cam you have now. I have seen some nice times out of the 230/227 TR cam, the 227/230
This would probally give you some good gains and you can probally get away w/o flycutting.

Are your heads that milled? Otherwise the X1 or F1 might be a goody...

Im pretty happy with my MTI R1 cam 232/236 .575/.578 112+4
Im not sure why more people dont run this cam in a 346`s but I really like it.
These days with g5-x3 / T-rex / Magic stick cams Mine seems mild. Plus the lift is alittle easier on the valve springs then some other cams.

Yea my heads are milled 30 thou. In the not too distant future I want to freshen up my 78k motor with fresh pistons and rods etc. So obviously I would get pistons with valve reliefs and then have more cam options. Im just kind of itching to make a cam change. The Hammer cam really has performed well and is an excellent daily driver. Thanks for your input!!

120mph @3600#'s....that car is making some good power. Personally, I wouldn't go jacking with it. Maybe take some weight out or find some traction. That car has easy low 11's in it. I have the Speed-tek F1 cam in my car. It has run a 7.2@95 weighing around 3400. I did run it in the 1/4, but a change of rear gears had my trans shifting early, so it only ran a 11.5@115.
Like you, I'm itching to get one of the bigger cams, but decided to wait until my new motor is done. Sucks having an outdated combo..lol.

TSP was introducing a new fast ramp 225 cam that was supposed to be able to out power a 224 XE-R. That also might be worth checking out. I've not seen any dyno numbers or track times with their new 225.
The R1 might be an interesting cam to try too.
Depending on what you want in the future a FMS cam is probably the way to go.

The C1 (Hammer Cam) is a 220/566/112 thats been around a long time.My car really varies mph a lot with weather changes.I realize all of us do, but I can have a 5 mph variable between the best air and the worst air.My 120 passes wre in mid forty degree weather with real low humidity. I dont know what the DA was but those conditions are pretty rare in south Fl. I recently borrowed a buddys scan master at the track and even when using 100 Sunoco GT I was getting up to 3.5 degrees of knock retard. This leads me to believe Im getting false knock possibly from my valve train.
