Default Cam choice- Jeep Wrangler LQ4 Manual Trans opinions?

Hey guys,

Long Post here...

I have been doing some research on cam choices and am afraid my current choice is a bit too big.

Build:
89 Jeep Wrangler
Stock LQ4 with C6 manifolds
Ported TB and larger intake.
228R on 114lsa cam
PRC 1218's
NV4500 5 speed manual trans with dual friction centerforce clutch
np231 t case
1 tons with 4,88's or 5:13's
37-40 inch tires.

I am looking for a cam with aggressive sound, and mainly more torque sine this is a off road rig with a stick, power under the curve is #1 rather than HP.

Possibly looking to flip the manifolds up and run two small turbo's down the road(52mm's), but for now the plan is N/A.

After looking through this section and the Dyno charts section it seems the 228R is a bit on the larger end for my goals, and the 114lsa is hurting my low end as well over say a 110 or 112 lsa.

I was also thinking about advancing the cam another 2-4 degrees on top of the 4 degree advance cut into the cam already. Thinking this would bring the peak torque /power lower in the RPM range. Yes? No?

This will also be a mildly driven street jeep as well.

Any experiences, thoughts, opinions etc?

Should I sell the 228R for say a 215 cam on 110 or 112lsa?

Thanks

Are you set on running a stick?

A friend of mine has a TJ with an LS1, 4L60E, and Rocktrac 241.

It runs really well and the trans seems to be holding up good also.

Its currently on Rubicon 44's with 5.13's but he has a set of 60's in the garage waiting to get built.

The build looks good tho. Cam is a little bigger than I would run. Something like a GT2-3 would be great for a Jeep but it wont have the sound your looking for.

Yeah, its really the wife's rig, and she wants to keep the stick.

I'll be wheeling it this weekend with its current 383 SBC Gen 1 so I will see the usable RPM range for what terrain we go on. I'm assuming the sweet spot would be 1700-3000 for max torque output. Low range would be around 2500-4000 ish?

I was also looking at the speed inc TBSS cam as well. I would prefer a used cam if I did get rid of the 228R.

Heck maybe I'm over-thinking things. It's happened before.
