Default Porting stock 853 heads?

Say I wanted to get my heads ported instead of going with new ones.

1. Who is the best at porting heads to the max?

2. Could I get as much out of my stock ported heads as most aftermarket heads?

I think I heard advanced inductions is really good, but can't remember. Btw wanting to do h/c with 228r

Theres a guy on the board who had those heads ported. IDK if he ever got it all together on the car. He had AI do it. They do great work.
No you will not get much out of those heads. If I were you I would pick up some used 241s or 5.3s and send them to AI.

i ported my 241s and got amazing numbers better than most aftermarket heads which cost alottttt but the only dif between 241 and 853 is the casting and the 241s are slightly ported better than 853s

You could get a very noticable gain by porting the 853s, but I'd you can spend $2000 + you would get a larger gain from a set of ported aftermarket heads. I'm happy with my ported/milled 241s heads....in the future I'll probably step up to a set of Mast Performance heads.

I would shy away from the 853's as if they have the notch, it limits your head, gasket choices.

Touched up 853's will do alright. I've seen some local people make some pretty decent numbers matched with FTI cams.

The key would not to spend too much money doing it. Budget is the only reason I would do that over a 243/799 setup.

There are a couple reasons I ported mine:

- they really are not worth anything if you try to sell them, tried, no one wants them.
- its a sleeper if anyone asks or looks at your heads
- great reviews and results from AI
- wanted a cam heads package that is made to work together

Wow forgot all about this thread. I am really thinking about sending my 853's off to AI and see if they will do a custom cam along with it... I do not see many people that send off there 853's to AI though... Say I send a set of 853's in for a port and polish for my stock short block. I wonder if AI could get them to flow better than like a stg. 2.5 head from tsp?

Ya, I did a vavlejob and blended it, on a 99 Z28 with a street sweeper cam, and bolt ones and it made somthing like 442whp 405 wtq. With a LS6 intake still, the porters were untouched. If you know whats your going on just improve what needed to be. CnC porting dosn't always mean it better.
