Default Stopping the crankshaft from moving? In a weird way...

How do you suggest keeping the crankshaft from rotating while trying to get the pulley off? With my motor on the stand I don't have the room to put the flywheel on like normal. Any suggestions?

Space the engine out on the stand bolts so that you can install the flywheel. Then use a flywheel holding tool to hold the flywheel. You can buy a holding tool or make one as I did.

You can rattle it off with an impact, however, it is ill-advised to install one this way.

Last time I just put a piece of pipe through the pulley and wedge it against the block. Didn't take much to hold it so I could get the bolt loose...

put flywheel back on, stick a #3 screw driver though one of the larger holes in the flywheel. done it many times works great. i tried it with an impact that supposedly goes to 700 ft/lbs of torque and it didn't move it, not sure what that was all about

Start a few flywheel bolts and wedge a pry bar between the bolts and the stand...put some masking tape on the treads so the pry bar doesn't mess them up

THIS ^ but the threads will go right through masking tape. Get and use some hardware bolts that are the same size/pitch. Then throw out the bolts.

Impact if you have it... wedge something in the balancer holes but be careful not to crack the cover... or you can turn the crank till you can get a bolt in one of the flywheel bolt holes and turn it till it catches...

Heating the crank pulley bolt will help quite a bit. Then use the impact to spin it out.

That looks cool. I like the block in the block method.

Yes the wood wedge is probably the safest route but the craftsman 1" wrench or "other" metalic object will work safely as long as there is'nt room for the "other" metalic object to wedge between parts in question
