why is the camaro at the dealership smoking?
why is the camaro at the dealership smoking? I am looking at buying a super clean 2002 z28 test drove it and it ran perfect no check engine light and no problems at all when we got back to the dealership i popped the hood and steam came out of the filler neck and dipstick tube when i removed them. i revved it up with my hand over the oil filler neck and no pressure just slow lingering steady steam from dipstick tube and filler neck.

the car never got hot or lagged in power. the exhaust did have condensation at start up. but after a ten minute test drive wouldnt it have cleared all the condensation? my next question, is there any camaros that have headgasket leaks or broken ringlands and still run perfect?

if the cars been sitting for a week its normal to have a small amount of condensation in the oil but after a 10 min drive and not beating on it hard id say something thing is seeping through a gasket

I thought it was real odd I been around ls1s long enough to know if they are lacking in power or getting hot, this one did none of that just a slow steam from the oil cap and dipstick. The pcv hose did look a bit old

Are you real serious about buying it, or is this just really bugging you to figure out now? lol. I'd say if you are really interested, talk to the dealer, let them know what you'd seen and arrange to take it on another test drive (maybe 20 mins this time), and see if it continues to do it. Who knows, it may really just be condensate that the PCV didn't get in that short of a drive. Also, did they recently do an oil change? It may just be oil additives burning off.

Seems normal to me. Condensation collects in the oil, and needs to be burned off.. Drive it for longer, and check.
Do an exhaust gas check on the coolant and see if there are any exhaust gasses in the coolant to indicate a head gasket issue?
Still though, sounds like normal condensation to me..

sounds fine to me, probably been sitting for a little while, try to get a good deal by bringing it up and negotiate, but like others said i believe it would be fine, just condensation in the crank case and valvecovers. take for longer test drive.
