Default Installed new heads...runs like poopy now?

I just finished up my head install today, i also installed 42# injectors in the process. I turned the key and it started up just fine....but it does not run like it used to at all. I haven't driven it yet, just let it idle in the garage so far. The idle will pick up to about 1600-1800 then drop down to 700-800 without me touching it. Sometimes it acts like it wants to die too. It used to be just a cam only car with the stock 28# injectors and ran completely fine before this. Would the new injectors be causing it to run like this since it hasn't been tuned for this new setup? or a combination of the injectors and heads? It does smell like it's running very rich.

Yea, you need a tune. Pull the new injectors and put the old ones back in. Install the new injectors at the shop when you go for a tune.

You're pumping too much fuel in there and possibly washing the cylinder walls while you're at it.

get it tuned asap! with an injector swap from 28's to 42's you could wash the cylinders.

It's very important to have the correct injector data loaded in the tune.

Couldn't I load the correct data instead of switching injectors just to drive to the dyno? I have access to hp tuners anytime.

Why didn't you already do it if you have HP tuners?

Do not drive or run it anymore. You'll wash the cylinders down and possibly hydrolock it.

If your not sure of the exact flow rate, high light the whole injectors flow rate table, then divide it by 28, then multiply the whole table by 42....this is a rough quick way of doing it.

Use that if they are rated at 42lbs for an ls1 (ls1s run a 58psi fuel pressure)
If they are Ford SVO 42lb injectors they are rated for 43psi so you would need to multiply your fuel table by 56.65 after you divide the table by 28

It scares me that someone who just took the heads of of there car has to ask this question. A simple understanding of how an engine works would tell you that you can't do something so ridiculous.

I know there is a reason for these forums and I learn things almost everyday but something this simple should have been realized LONG before taking the top end off of your engine.

Regardless I hope it works out for you and next time do a bit more self education before swapping something that directly effects the running of your engine. If you only let it idle for a short wile you should be fine but dumping so much fuel into the engine can cause all sorts of problems including destroying it.

I'm surprised your car even started and idled with such a big injector change. I would not run it again until you can at least re tune for the injectors.

You'd be supprised at how many people tell other people to "just bolt it on, the computer will relearn"

Fix the tune or change the injectors back.

You better change your oil too.

Someone asks nearly every week about bigger injectors on a stock tune, a quick google search of the site would have told you not to do this.

The problem is he is a part of this forum. That means he should have been slightly more inteligent then that. It is bad enough if you are 16 dicking with your buddies and something like this comes up. But if you have been on a forum all about your car and engine are you put your self at decent risk of blowing your engine up or atleast detroying the cylender walls.

My point isn't to continualy bash the OP. The point I am trying to make is the OP needs to educate him self before ******* with such important.

Don't feel bad, I bent two valves on my H/C swap rolling the engine over by hand because I forgot to put the rocker tray back on. Im no mechanic and it was the first time I pulled the top end off any car. All you can do is learn from it and move on despite what people think you should know. Hopefully your engine is ok.
