Default 408 build questions.

so. i dropped my lq9/4 6.0L iron block off at the machine shop along with my L92 heads and the rotating assembly parts

im having them clean the block, install the cam bearings and bore/hone/clearence for the stroker crank. i left the pistons/rods/crank/bearings/mainstuds with them. all paperwork is in the boxes, so if i remember correctly the paperwork will tell them what they need to clearance and by how much?

as for the heads they are going to mill the heads .030 and do a port/polish.

my question is, is there anything else i may have missed in telling them what i need done?

keeping in mind they are not going to do the assembly. i will be doing that myself.

I'd have the line bore checked if you didn't see the main bearings that were in it, and make sure the decks are flat/squared.

Also have them pull the barbell and screw in plugs at the back/ drivers side of the block to be sure the oil passages are good and clean

Ok. I know I gotta replace the barbell for sure since it isn't there. Little back history on the motor. chris from Spdc sold it to me a year ago after having it checked out already. I know its up to par. He was going to use it in a project and went a different rt. So I'm just wondering if theres anything I'm missing from what I've asked them to do. Its just been sitting for a year. Covered up and oiled. Just want to make sure the machine shop has all the info from me they need.

What are you plans for it, and what kind of cam? I'm just asking because you are now entering the world of HUGE lol with the extra cubes you can go a LOT bigger on your cam duration and still be very streetable, plus when you go with a larger cam you can really go a lot higher on your compression....for example, in my GTO I'm running a 12.5:1 408 with a 255/266 .624/.624 115 lsa, full timing on pump gas and have no problems with knock and idles at 850-900 rpms. It has better manners than an ms4 in a stock cube motor.

So, you might want to think about what size cam you want to run and what compression.

I'm running my original 241 heads, ported/ milled to 57cc chambers and flat top pistons with -4cc valve reliefs.

mark, haven't planned the cam out just yet since it isn't in the budget. Worst case scenario I throw my trex in for a short period of time. But I plan to have pat g or ai design a cam for it sometime after the machine work is done. As for compression. I don't know what it will be. Itll be tbh. Ai said depending on my gasket I should be at 12-12.5 cr. with the -3 cc valve relieved flat top piston and .030 off the L92 head. I won't know for sure until I get it together and check

Just remember 8.5:1 dynamic compression is about max safe (from everything I've found and read) for pump gas....with my cam the intake valve closing point is 85 degrees abdc so that puts my dynamic compression at 8.22:1
