Default oil pan gasket...

During my h/c install i dropped the pan a bit to get more room to change the oil pump. There is now oil around the gasket and I was wondering if i just run the bolts back in (they were never all the way out) will it still seal or will it leak? Im following the ls1howto.com guide.

Oil on the gasket will not keep it from sealing as long as the gasket material is still intact - i.e. not gouged.

Just clean it with carb cleaner to get all the oil off of the seal.....clean the block sealing surface....and you'll be good to go.....as long as the seal rib on the pan gasket is still soft.

Edit: I just noticed that you didn't take the pan all the way off. Just run the bolts back in, as long as the seal is still intact.
