Default Will the T-Rex make significant power gains on heads?

I realize the t-rex is designed for a stock headed car....or at least those are the cars that are getting the most gains from them. Will a t-rex work well with a set of aftermarket heads? Am I going to see 460+rwhp? Possibly more?

I realize I will have to definately clearance the pistons from the valves (flycut or go aftermarket slugs all together).

Or should I get a cam that is matched to a set of heads instead? I would like to get a cam now and get some heads in a couple of months.....so the t-rex would be a great cam giving me a lot of power for just that mod itself, until the heads come.

The T-Rex cam would be an absolute monster with heads.

Awesome Chris, I'll be following you to see how much power you gain down low with heads.

You may want to call Thunder on that, I would guess that is the cam they were running in Angies car at the SBSO. But since they had just gotten it back from the body shop, they hadn't had much time for dynoing and such, but perhaps by now they have.

I was wondering the same thing. If the cam has a weak area down low, possibly some more airflow may help.

Thunder's Camaro was running the T-Rex with ported heads. I think their car ran great mph, maybe the 2nd best MPH in F/S behind an M6 FRC Vette.

Too bad we never got to make a full out pass. I ran the NSCA race down here this past weekend and went better ET and MPH with all but 3 inches of the airbox taped up. Had to run the 11.00 index class. I'll have to snap a couple of pics of my homemade ET limiter.

Okay here is my homemade professional ET/MPH blocker. And yes the front of the airbox was blocked off too.

Wow, that's crazy!!! What you think it'll run getting full airflow? And what did it run all choked like that? You said 11.0 index class, so i'm assuming it was runnin around 11.0's, right?

The car should be able to run 10.60s full out in average air and even better in some negative DA air. The car is still at the SBSO weight of 3375 pounds as well. I was the #1 qualifier with an 11.02 but something in the tranny let go so I couldn't make the finals.

Yes that was with the (soon to be released) Thunder Racing 5.3 CNCed heads. Yeah the car was running great, although it didn't 60' very well with the taped up airbox, I wonder why. I was looking forward to talking home some money but it wasn't to be. Hopefully I'll get a tranny and converter back in it soon and try my hand at the Super Street class at the NHRA nationals in a few weeks.

Almost got the tuning done on mine, should have some dyno numbers soon on an A4 with ABS S2 heads. I will say this, the Trex loves to rev and it rev's fast, I keep hitting my 7200 RPM limiter with a 6900 shift point, and it was still pulling hard when it hit the limiter. Needless to say, I had to drop the shift points to 6700 and up the limiter to 7400 for now. Anyone have that problem going that far over the shift point?

No we still offer GTP heads but we are always in the R&D business. We will have our own line of CNCed heads for the more budget minded customers. It's our own port design that we are having CNCed. They are still about 2-3 weeks out but more info will start leaking out soon.
