Default need help advancing a cam with a rollmaster timing set

Well I'm hoping somebody can enlighten me to the correct way to advance the cam timing using this set. only *0 is marked on the crank sprocket and search is completely failing me. We checked the valve events of the new cam and it is retarded by 3.5 degrees. Unfortunately this timing set was installed 2 years ago and the instructions are long gone. from what i've read they wouldn't have been much help anyway (poorly written and vague). it seems that moving to the keys to the left would be advanced but i'm not sure. Also i found a couple very old threads that state the keyways are 2* on the crank but only 1* on the camshaft. Is this true. Any help would be greatly appreciated

if your key way is currently in the 0* spot on the crank sprocket then your dot for lining up the cam gears will be three teeth to the left. if you wanted to advance the cam 4 degree's then you would remove the crank sprocket and place it back on in the +4* key way slot. your dot will once again be three teeth to the left of the +4* key way slot. hope this makes sense. you don't move the cam gear unless you have a cloynes hex adjust set

None of the + or ~ key ways are marked. I believe going to the left would be advanced. If so would my new mark still have the piston at tdc?

does anybody know for sure if 2* at the crank is 2* at the cam? i'm thinking the timing set is set up for camshaft degrees but i'm not 100%
