Default Machine shop painted my heads, should I be pissed?

I just picked up my stock LS1 heads from the machine shop. I had them perform a cleaning, 3 angle valve job, and reassembly with new Manley intake valves, new valve stem seals and, and new springs. The bottoms look great, clean valves and a faced deck. However after bead blasting and before assembly the gave them a quick spray coat of grey. I can't figure out why they would do this except that they are so used to working on steel heads that it is just part of their procedure.

Should I be pissed, should I have them strip and re-assemble or just let it go and be happy that it looks like they did a good job with everything else?

Agree - as pretty as brand new heads look coming out of the box, once installed you can't see enough of the head's exteriors to even tell their color.

Just pick a color that matches your engine bay or get some aluminum/silver color and spray over them.

I spray em engine paint metallic aluminum all the time.
i even had a set polished to an almost mirror finish. No problems at all. If u dont like the color, paint them or ask the machine shop to strip em again to bare metal.

Thanks for all the feedback. I was planning on spraying a few engine parts anyway so I'll probably end up re-coating with my color of choice.

This might sound stupid, but are you sure it's paint and not a dry-moly? I've seen them spray dry moly on iron heads before.... just a thought.

It looks like plain old spray paint but I doubt I would be able to tell the difference. I appreciate the heads up. I'll give them a call and ask before I try to re-spray them.

If you brought the heads to TEC they did not spray them, when the clean them with the bead blaster the heads come back looking gray, no more shiny machined sides.

If it's spray paint, you could hit them with some brake parts cleaner and wipe them down with some rags. It'll strip it right off and not mess anything up in the process.
