Cool Won a cam, now what should I do...?

Hey guys. I just won a cam through a contest. The specs on it are as follows:

•Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 283/283
•Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 221/221
•Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .558/.558
•LSA/ICL: 114/110
•Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
•RPM Range: 2500-6000

It will be going in a 2000 Z28, A4. Supporting mods are longtube headers, ory, and K7N fipk.

Now,.. I am not too knowledgable on camshafts. Is this a good, streetable cam? What else should I throw into the engine to support and maximize the efficiency of this cam? I am guessing new lifters and springs? Any help would be appreciated!

With those specs, this cam will have tons of low end and mid. Very mild and streetable plus it wont be harsh on the valve train with the low lift.

Be sure to get good valvesprings and pushrods! Stock lifters will be fine. You will need a tune too.

That is exactley what I wanted to hear! I am not worried nor do I need a lot of top-end. Since I don't race and the car mainly just goes to shows and driving for enjoyment, it sounds like this cam will serve that purpose well for me.

I was planning on dropping the motor over the coming winter to detail and clean-up the engine bay, so I might as well go ahead and build the motor now.

Im thinking i might have some head work done. I know I am going to have to do springs and rods and will more than likely try to make a trip down to Frost for a tune...

Specs are close to an old MTI cam. Go do a search on MTI T1 cam. I think that cam was a 221/221.

As the above said, it'll be the best of both worlds...good power and not ragged edged!

I'd drop a 2,800-3,000 stall in and a tranny cooler

Congrats, I entered that contest too.

A good spring kit, seals, and hardened pushrods should be everything you need to get that cam in. I bet you'll have plenty of PTV too.

get some crane 918 valve springs and some harden push rods from TSP.if your motor has lower miles you can reuse the stock lifters ,so no need to remove the heads.get a new ls2 timing chain.when you know what cam you do have .

Yes it is. Thanks! This is the first thing I have ever won, so I was quite shocked.

Car has 110,xxx miles on it, so I am thinking about just dropping the motor to clean the engine bay up as well as rebuild the whole top end, including the heads. Just still not sure what route I want to go with as far as the heads. P&P and rebuild, or just buy new ones... The more I read up on the cam specs the more I am happy I chose this cam.

For those that asked. Visit Lunati's Facebook page to learn about the contest and enter.

Springs, pushrods, and at least a mild converter/cooler for the transmission and a tune and you will be all set.

with that small of a cam a budget converter would work perfect and not break the bank
