I just went thru this. We put new lifter in that I didnt have time to soak. It took a good 3-5 minutes of idle for it to get oil to the drivers head, passanger head was faster. I was totally scared too but as per advice on here and from a gm engineer I just let it run and all is good now.

Unplug the coils and pull the fuel pump fuse crank it over with the starter untill the oil pressure gauge comes up. Does you oil pressure gauge show any psi ? Also did you get the plastic bar bell in the back of the engine behind the rear main cover when you reassembled ? Also if the rocker covers are still off I would dump oil on the rockers and down the push rod holes.

Deff put some oil on the top end to keep friction down till oil gets up there. You have oil pressure right? I had the same problem, we started getting worried and researching why it wouldn't happen and found the stuff that has been found on here. My friend had started revving the motor and finally started seeing oil out of the pushrods....it deff took a while, if you don't have oil pressure on the gauge then dont run it anymore
