LS2 heads interchangeable?
I was reading in Super Chevy or Popular Hot Rodding or something the other day about the new displacement on demand (DOD) in the GEN4 engines. The article said the heads on the GEN4 ARE interchangeable with GEN3 motors are improved LS6 castings. Wonder if it would be safe to assume the same on the LS2??

Since the LS2 is supposedly a 3 valve per cylinder engine, I would say definitely not. You might be able to use it with significant modification, but who knows. If the base geometry is the same, it might not be that bad. Who knows.

From what I read in the article, they didn't wanna deviate from initial design much. That is why I assumed they applied the same principle to the LS2. If all else fails and this 3 valve head doesn't work out, one can always port and play with these DOD heads since they're supposed to be better. If there's an iron LS2 block to come, then we're talking.

The LS2 is the 2 valve 6.0 liter engine in the C6. As yet unnamed 3 valve version is likely coming in the 2006 Z06.
How about this aluminum 6 liter LS2 block? Can we drop THAT in? I have read that some sensors are in different locations, but can we work around that? Problems may arise in accessory mounting, engine mounts, etc...
But if we could use existing ported LS1/LS6 heads on the 6.0 block, dropped into an F-body, that would be sweet.

LS6 heads
In this months car craft there is a poster of the ls2 engine. You can clearly see 243 casting heads... not to mention a nice article about the engine. I wonder how much more is interchangeable... I wouldn't be surprised if everything is.

in the carcraft, they mention:
"external Knock Sensors"
Im wondering, if that means they are moving from the valley cover to the side of the block like a Gen2 ?
one thing I did notice is new though, a new design on the Mobil1 oil fill cap

the Heads on the LS2 are just LS6 heads, which is very good news as this will flood the market and drive down prices of the LS6 head so we can all afford a LS6 head with a Stage 2.5 port job from TEA.

What about this "Blue Devil Engine" I keep hearing about with 600+ horsepower?? Could that end up in a vette? I have read it will be the answer to the Viper and Ford GT

I've read in numerous magazines and articles that the ls2 and even the 3-valve heads will be full compatible with gen 3 blocks. think about it. Do you think that GM would come out with an all new gen 3 block that shares vitually no parts with any other small block in 1997, and then come out with an entirely new block for 05??? I'm sure the tooling is too expesive to do that. this new **** will bolt up to our gen 3 blocks and our crap will bolt up to the blocks too. Im sure there will be some stucff you need to change, but it will work.
