I think the most important thing here is your goal. What are you trying to achieve with your build? Then call up some of the sponsors on this site and explain those goals to them and let them custom spec you a cam. Also you must consider your current mods and the supporting mods that go with that cam. It goes the same for your converter, after you decide on your build and how you will be using your car any of the sponsors on here who specialize in torque converters will guide you on the correct stall. Just know what you want your car to drive like and the rest shouldnt be so hard. I personally think thats the easiest way for people who aren't car gurus to correctly build their project. Try reading the stickies on here, that will help you a lot.

tell a cam guy every thing about your car ,and they will recommend a cam that will optimize your combo.talk to TSP they have a good selection of cams to choose from.

Some of the factors to consider while choosing a stall:
Match the stall to have shift extensions that fall about 400 rpm below max trq peak. Example if cam trq peak is at 4400rpm, then 4000 stall should be ideal for max effort.
People automatically think that such a big stall is not drivable but that depends on str (how loose or tight it is).

Like Predator said, it will actually make the car less streetable with too small a stall vs too high a stall.

I daily drove and loved my 4,000 stall
