Default Valve train questions.

I just purchased some 243 heads. I am looking at a couple cam choices but I am reserved about my rockers. Can I go with some 1.8:1 rockers or stick with a stock 1.7 layout for proper valve clearance. The cams all have a mildish lift of .588 int/ex. This is for a stock ls1 btw

I would look more at the ramp rate of the cam rather than the lift in determined whether to go with the 1.8's. If it is a fairly fast ramp like an XER I think I would personally stick with 1.7's and spend the time to properly set them up.

I'm not a big fan of the higher ratio rockers, it throws the valve train geometry off and is hard on the valve train. Just find a cam with the desired lift.

Thanks for the replies. On a different note does anyone know of anywhere that would port my heads in the nc/sc area and not charge an outrageous amount of money?

Don't know anyone but if I had a set of 243's and wanted work done to them, no question they would go to AI. Their results speak for themselves. Do them once and do them right.

Instead of more rocker ratio, just get a bigger cam and stick with the 1.7s
