I bought a long block off of my friend a couple of years back and put it in my project car. I've got it up and running pretty sound, but I haven't gotten the chance to drive it yet. Its a 01-02 LS1 block with forged H-beam rods pistons, TSP magic stick V3 cam, and stage 1 LS6 heads also from TSP. Everyone I've talked to tells me to junk the cam and buy a new one but the engine makes good power on the dyno. It made 429hp and 38Xtq through a 6 speed.
Just wondering your all's opinion on TSP cams and heads?

Who told you that? Advanced Induction? Thats what they told me when I called them a month ago. People are satisfied with their price and performance.

The MS3 and the V3 are 2 different cams.

It has an MS3 in it...In our area, OP and I are very good friends with a local dyno tuner, who is one of the best without a doubt. Over and over again, the MS3 cams have not been consistent and just dont perform on the dyno or the local drag strips. There are tons of people on here who love them, and I am sure just as many who dont. This board is very Pro-TSP, so alot of negative things get overlooked and ignored. I think you shold run the cam Cody...then if you end up not liking it or it doesnt perform as you want it too, then swap it out for something else. Remember though, those dyno numbers were STD numbers from S&R racing in Lexington...not Phil's dyno...so they are definitely not on the low side of the spectrum. Their Superflow dyno with STD numbers used to read quite a bit higher than Phils dynojet...at least when this run was made.

Cody, on the same day, same dyno...my old blue car made 465rwhp and 414rwtq with a TREX v2, CNC 853 heads, and an LS6 intake and ported stock throttle body.

At Phils, on the dynojet, after adding a FAST 90/90 setup, and a retune, my car did 453rwhp and 404 rwtq...

I usually go by the numbers from Phils because its SAE and its a dynojet...which is what most other dyno shops try to make their numbers similar too by tweaking thier dynos. I believe S&R's dyno reads a little on the high side. My cars track times are in my sig...those were run by the person I sold the car to with no changes except MT et streets.

who said to junk the tsp? the ms3 is a good max effort cam and with a good tune it is very streetable, like moez28 said i think this board is pro tsp, hell im pro tsp most of my build is tsp which is the ms4 cam and prc 215 heads and i daily drive my combo no problem but to each is own, give the ms3 a chance if you dont like it than change it. from my own experience TSP are good people and willing to help you even if you dont buy from them. just my 2 cents

i agree, with most, run the cam if you like it keep it not get another one but it is a good cam. I have the MS3 and the PRC 2.5 5.3 heads, FAST 92/92 and as stated it is a max effort cam but i have no issues driving on the street. Now if whoever told you that it is not a good cam, maybe they ment for you, again its a max effort, high RPM cam. your low and mid range wont be as high as a smaller cam but up top its a monster IMO.

If that cam is set up right you will love it, max effort cams need max effort parts, you wouldnt believe the gains that i have gotten from my ms4 car by doing the mods it needs, big cams arent a budget way of going fast but if you put the parts behind it you will love it,since its in there i would see what ya can do with it

I'd say the setup has less than 5-6k on it.

The main reason I decided to ask was because I had 3 or 4 people tell me on separate occasions that they didn't like tsp cams, but no one really said why, so it got me kind of wondering what kind of issues were related to them. I noticed the dyno numbers seem to be lower with stock heads nd just the cam, but the track times seem to be on par with everyone else's cams. I was assuming there was some sort of mechanical variance in the lobes or something soon those lines.

Also, like moez28 said, the cam is a magic stick 3, not a V3. I posted v3 as in version 3, not knowing there was a cam called a "V3" lol, my bad.

I plan on running this setup because I have no other choice at the moment due to being kind of tight budget wise. If I end up spending any more money on the engine I'm going with a different fuel/intake setup. Also in everyone's opinion, would changing the cam make THAT much of a difference? Like $300-400 worth of new cam difference?

I run TSP heads and cam. Love it no issues car pulls so hard up top. Those guys know what they are doing!

You will always find shops that talk down leaders in the market. It's pretty common for people to bash the best/most popular.

The cool things is I'll gladly offer up our engine dyno to test a competitors head or camshaft against our products.

Nobody else can offer that. its easy to make claims you dont have to back up, we always offer the use of our engine dyno to prove our packages!!

I have a lot of TSP parts on my car and they all have worked great. I did a full rebuild last year and most of the new parts came from TSP.

TSP has been around for a very long time. No doubt they know the ins and out of these cars. The funny thing is when a new shop becomes a sponsor or when a newer shop puts out a new cam, all of a sudden "THEY ARE A PROVEN SHOP" LMAO..

I would not hesitate to run TSP stuff. Fastest H/C with PRC 227/MS4. That speaks volumes. Off the shelf cam and their heads that they produce in house.

I have been dealing with TSP since '04. They are very knowledgeable about what they sell and also very patient with all your questions and can help point you in the right direction. Call them and have them spec you a matching combo for your ms3 and drill them with questions. Great group of guys to deal with.

I have run a best of 10.42 at 128 mph with that cam and there 5.3 heads at 3150 lbs,not bad in my opinion for a real budget cam and heads. That cam has good drivability compared to some of the bigger cams out there.
