Default Largest 5.3L cam for California smog?

For those of you with 5.3L motors, what's the largest cam you have gotten to pass smog in CA? From what I recall, a 224/224 114 is about the largest for a 5.7L to guarantee passing smog (I know people have passed larger cams). I'm assuming the 5.3L would need a smaller duration to guarantee passing smog. This is a turbo application so I won't be going any lower and 114 LSA. Running a gas/alcohol mixture for smog is an option too.

Thanks!

With a turbo car, I would go something small in the mid-high teens at the most. Heck, even an LS6 cam would work well.

Right now I'm leaning towards 212/212, 215/215, or 216/216 all on 114 LSA.

You should be fine with even a 224/224 116lsa(-8* overlap), 222/222 115lsa(-8*overlap), 220/220 114lsa(-8* overlap). FYI, you can go to a tighter lsa with the smaller cams. For example:218/218 113lsa(-8* overlap), 216/216 112lsa(-8* overlap), 215/215 112lsa(-9* overlap), 214/214 112lsa(-10 overlap).
What's your lift limit you want to go with?

So is smoggability all about overlap? What's the max overlap I should aim for on a 5.3L? For an LS1 I heard you want to keep it less than -2*.

As for lift, it should be relatively low lift, probably in the 0.55x-0.59x" range.

For the LS1(346) you want -4*, with the 5.3 I'd say probably -6*, but -8* for sure. Yeah it's more about overlap (lsa and duration), not just the lsa, or duration. Any I listed would be good, if you want a shelf grind a TSP 220R(xer lobes), with a 114 or 115lsa should be a good option.
