When I removed mine for my engine rebuild, I used a 3 jaw puller and a torch on low heat to get the stock gear off. To install the new one I heated it in the oven (with wife's permission) and slid it on and used a straight edge to align both gears.

You mean the harmonic balancer? From your title it sounds like your talking about the cam gear. But it's not that bad of a job with the right tools. There's a sponsor that sells them on here for like $50. Search for crank pulley install tool or something similar. Here's cheaper version of it which is what I used and it works ok. It did stick a little in the crank though when trying to get it back out. To get it off just rent a small 3 jaw puller from Autozone.

I used the long 3 jaw puller to get mine off, didn't bust out the torch though.. It just takes patience. The new one slid on and off with ease.

You cant fit that ridiculous monstrosity on the engine with it installed in the car. A cheap two jaw puller will pull the lower gear very quickly. The old gear pushing the new gear and a pulley installer will push it back on.
