Intake is pulled off, how do I get the knock sensor's out?

22mm socket I think to remove the sensor.

To remove the connector use light pressure with a pair of pliers.

Grip it from the lil tabs on the side with the pliers, lil pressure on them when you squeeze the pliers and just pull up.

Don't be surprised if you throw a code for Knock sensors after the change out. I had to pull the intake twice - once for the sensors and again for the harness itself.

yeah, if you change the sensors/sensor connectors out, it's a good idea to put RTV silicone all around the black rubber plug so that water cannot collect inside

LOL. I learned this the hard way too. Helped my buddy do his knock sensors and had to do it twice because of the harness. Saved me time with my truck though.

Why would it throw a code if you put new ones in?

My best guess is from heat cycles, the plastic connectors and wiring gets brittle and not give accurate readings that the sensor is actually producing.

sorry for the hijack but I need the harness I just bought a motor for my chevelle swap and it was missing it. What do the sensors do anyways??

The knock sensors are basically microphones that "hear" spark knock and input that data to the PCM so it can retard ignition timing.

The LS PCMs have a slick function called the Adaptive Spark Scalar that makes the change more persistent and global, knocking down the entire advance curve in percentages. It does a better job of protecting the engine vs. older systems that simply react to knock when it happens.
