Default Lifters

so i got a cam installed on my 02 camaro, and i was going to go get a tune right away but i have a lifter noise.

i already changed the oil, so i know its not that, maybe the lifter is just bad.

but anyway what would be the problems here? i was thinking on just buying some new lifters and pushrods, but i was wondering what would be the best for the price, i heard ls7 lifters are good but what about the comp cams?

any advice on this matter would be greatly appriciated

Thx.

update - the noise its like a clicking and it gets louder when i step on the gas.

All you need is the LS7 lifters. You should always change them along w/ longer pushrods when u install a cam

Is it a lifter noise or rocker arm noise? What kind of rockers are you running? If stocks, are they bottomed out and torqued to 22 ft/lbs?

Agreed. I just installed my mayhem cam. I also changed the springs, pushrods, oil pump, balancer, and used ls7 lifters. Have to remove the heads to swap the lifters, you probably know that already.

i will check the torque on the rocker, but im quite sure its a lifter noise, so i will get the ls7 lifters and as for the pushrods are there any specific ones i should get?

In my experience, a dying lifter will cause ticking at low rpm and fall silent during rising rpm's, due to the lifter pumping up. A loose rocker arm will tick no matter what since there is not enough preload on the lifter itself.

If the rockers are torqued down to the proper spec, I would look for a failed rocker bearing. This will also cause a ticking sound.

I would personally rule out every possibility of rocker arm noise before I pull the heads. The head bolts cannot be reused, as you probably know already, and if going back with stock fasteners, it is more than difficult to get the correct torque angle on them while the engine is still in the vehicle due to space limitations on the rear of the engine.

That's another good point, I used ARP head bolts instead of stock, the torque procedure is definatly easier with the ARP bolts. I did my cam and heads with the motor in the car. But I feel real good about using brand new ls7 lifters.

Yep.. 22 ft/lbs AFTER the rocker is bottomed out in its cradle.

Indeed. ARP studs are the way to go if you plan on swapping cams/heads etc. more than once.

You have a couple of options on rocker arms..

1. If the rocker arm trunion bearings are bad, COMP cams sells an upgrade kit that replaces the stock trunions with an updated version. That'll run you around $140

2. Yella Terras, or the like, will do the trick. These type of adjustable rocker arms do not set in the cradle as the stock ones do, and require more in-depth setup as far as rocker pre-load goes. Probably run you around $500

3. Stock Replacements. Can get them used for $50 on ebay
