Default Filing down oversized piston ring? 4.030 ring for 4.020 bore?

I can't seem to find a HellFire ring for a 4.020 bore. The closest I see is for a 4.030 bore. My question is if I can file down the +.030 ring for my .020 bore? I'd like to run the HellFire rings as the next "best" options are at least $100 bucks more then the HellFire's. These are for JE pistons.

Any input on this?

Doing the math, you'd only be filing off 0.0632" to maintain the same gap. The ring tension might be a little more, or it might be negligible.

Raising an older thread...

What about filing a set of rings from say 4.035 down for 4.030 pistons? rough math says thats about 0.0157" total ring material removed. Reasonable?

Thats normal. Usually the file fit rings are just +.005" oversized.
