Default Blew my ls1, just got married last friday... need cheap advise...

Well basically on the way to getting married on the 25th, something let go in the bottom end. Shop already confirmed it is def on the bottom end. Car only has 88k on it. very disappointing but i gotta get her running. Shop can get me an lq4 motor and swap all of my stuff over. This is the cheapest i can afford right now. question is, i currently have the ls6 intake, 231/237 .598 .595 112+2 LSA, and ls1 241 heads. Am i going to make LESS power with this setup on the lq4?? I figure ill get an lq4 because eventually ill go FI. Shop has me right around 2500 to swap everything over and that includes the lq4 as well. I was thinking about getting some stock 243 heads, but we all know how frustrating that can be. Any other suggestions? i basically just have to get her up and running. Shop informed me that it would not be worth rebuilding the LS1 bottom end... can anyone let me know ill be ok or what else i should do? Cannot afford a 4k motor at this time, considering im still on the 10bolt, so def cant afford a 3k rear end swap thanks in advance!

Just swap everything over from your ls2 to the lq4...you might give up a little with the lower compression pistons, but if you go FI in the future they will help your out.

By the way that is a great price for the motor and labor!

You won't give up much. The Ls2 heads will net you about 10:1 compression on the Lq4. You probably won't notice via the seat of the pants feel of the car.

Another cheap option to just get on the road.
Consider a jy 5.3. Just to get car back on the road. It will run on stock tune. Have had to do this before on my own car. Pulled ls1,dropped in stock 5.3. Had it running again in about 8hr. Just swapped in my driveway. Alone on a nice saturday. started in am,was back at street same night. I had bought the 5.3 for 300$ for other project.

better hurry up and build that motor before you marry her. once you do that its game over for you pal.

edit: oh i misread. looks like you are already married. game over already.

if its a complete motor why not use the 317 heads and possibly mill them...

I must have read a different post!! Its an LS1(thats broke), he's already married, and it has 241 heads(the motor that is)!!.....Price for the 6.0 and labor doesn't sound bad at all, you could swap the 241s on w/thinner head gaskets and get some compression back, but then you're adding cost (head gaskets, head bolts)....save the 317s for an FI build later. I don't think you'd lose anything going this route and might possibly gain....you'd be trading compression for cubes!! Just a suggestion! Congrats on the marriage and good luck with the swap! Larry.

yall crack me up. The 2500 is give or take a couple 100 of course, but im just going to go this route. Thanks for the advice guys. I have a great wife and this is one of the reasons i married her. Shes not happy but knows how hard ive worked on this car and how much it means to me. I am almost thinking lq9 instead of ls4 cuz ive also always wanted a bad *** NA motor. Can always spray the stock lq9 like a 150 shot all day long ive heard. But then again, i never thought my ls1 would blow up with 88k miles either. oh well. shoulda bought a cobra

If the "warranty" hasn't run out, get an annulment. Cheaper than a divorce!!

Hmmm, well here goes:

Dump the wife
Pawn the rings and any other valuables you can recuperate.
Heck; pawn the wife!
rebuild your LS1

(look sometimes you have to make a drastic decision in life.

I really hate to jump onto the wagon, buuuuut to marry an American woman in this day & age is a 3-5 year sentence in hell ending in bankrupcy.

Good luck w/ the car. Although the LQ4 will add to the weight of the front end the torque from the larger displacement block should reduce any feel of low end power loss, should there be any.

Back when I put a 370ci iron in my Z, I had to do a few mods to offset the weight gain which is noticeable when cornering.
1- relocated battery in place of spare.
2- Bilstein shocks
3- poly bushings for stock sway and other front pieces.

then everything was back to normal (even better with slight trq increase (due to my choice of cams)

quick question for you guys. I feel like the ls1 heads are going to limit that cam/block/intake combo. What is the cheapest/best alternative?? My friend said 5.3 truck heads?? Ive been outa the game for a while so not sure what goes good with what? if i could spend like 200 bucks on some cheap heads that would be an increase i might as well do it

5.3L heads are weaker than LS1 heads if not fully ported.
