Just scrapped a cast iron 4 bolt main Gen I SBC Block, had main caps & freeze plugs other wise bare. It was 150 pounds.

Scaled my new LS3 crate motor yesterday. To get a comparison with the engine that came out of my car I 1) drained the sump (yes, new crate motor comes full!), 2) removed oil filter, 3) removed flex plate. 393.4 lbs.

RIF - reading is fundamental.... " '82 Volvo 242---5.0L is gone, 6.2L coming soon!" What's a "Pontiac"? LOL Here - it's clear you need to look at pictures...

Nice Volvo Michael. Very creative. Don't mind the natives.

As for the 4.8/5.3 cast iron blocks... is it safe to assume they weight about as much as the 6.0's? If not a bit more due to the smaller bore size.

Wanting an answer to the weight of a lightened LS engine block has lead me to LSM systems engineering. I've sent them an e-mail twice, but got no respond... anybody got an idea of the weight or who to contact?

Anyone swap from Aluminum to Iron and notice front end alignment changes that needed to be made by the alignment shop?

I just finished my LS-LM swap and put it back together new steering rack, tie rod ends, and it goes perfectly straight hands off the wheel from the first drive...but Ill still get it aligned...

Should I tell the alignment shop about the change or let them do their thing..or will possibly even they notice it on the machine?

Ive never aligned a car with a professional rack so I wouldnt know what to ask or tell them but...."hey...theres another 110 pounds on the front now"...lol

If your ride height changes, then yeah your alignment needs looking at too.
