Default LQ4 in 2005 Silverado

I have been told to put a set of LS2 heads and a cam from 02-04 Z06 Vette.

Does this sound good? How much would it raise the compression?

Any help would be appreciated.

check out performancetrucks.net at the top of the page. It would raise the compression from 9.4 to somewhere around 10.2 to 10.3. I wouldnt use a ls6 cam id get one a lil more truck friendly like a comp 265 or comp 269 if you wanna stay small.

It's not ideal but yes you could, and the ls6 cam would be fine, it's a pretty mild cam.

If your not wanting to run the higher octane fuel i wouldnt switch heads. Your tuner is just going to put less timing so that negates the purpose.

It can be set up to run either octane fuel - the computer will adjust to the lower octane as needed.

I appreciate all the help. Ultimately I will be pulling a camper with this truck so I want good low in torque. I don't mind using a higher octane if needed but would it be better overall to just change camshaft and get a good tuned PCM? I plan on a better muffler and change the factory air inlet to some degree.

I was told a little higher compression would actually be more efficient on mileage when not towing.

Thanks

Compression is helpful in terms of torque/power and gas mileage. Although the heads will increase your static compression the cam will pressumably take back some your dynamic compression. Given the torque a stock LS6 puts out, I don't think you will have a problem given your displacement. You should get a tune, but the computer can handle differences in fuel octane such that you can run 87 octane much of the time and switch to higher octane when performance is needed. A stock LS6, for example, can run either octane.

I got a mail order tune from Wait4me for my LS6 once and it was satifsfactory. I have since moved on to a hands-on tuner and I believe that process yields better results, but which one to use depends on where you live.

I don't know any tuners in Tennessee. You might want to post in the regional forum for Southern Members also.

Thanks for all the help. Unless there are anymore suggestions, I will go with LS2 (243) heads and the LS6 cam.

Spend some time on performance trucks, look into the trucker cam and long tubes. From what I understand the ls6 cam is not a very good choice. I would put a post in there and then make a decision.
