Default Callies 3.8 inch LS1 crank?

Has anyone heard about the 3.8" Callies crank for the LS1? I love the 387cid big bore engine. I drove in my buddies 382 cid all bore setup. I car so very quick. For those who say the big bore motor isn't all that great hasn't been in one long enough or whatever. I loved the way this car felt. The motor had power everywhere. And now Callies came up with the 3.8 cube crank. That's 406cid, now just add a D1SC with a front mount intercooler

Do you know if that 3.8" crank is made in China and finished in the USA?

Sorry to sidetrack the thread but I'm cunfused, doesn't a 4" crank make a 383? If so, how does the 3.8 crank get you to 406ci?

I'm missing something

With a bore of 4.125" and a 3.8" stroke makes
406cid.

That's a good question, I'm not sure where it's made. I only read it somewhere that Callies/Compstar makes a 3.800" and a 3.825" LS1 crank, but i can't find it. Not even on Callies web site. I love the idea of the 4.125" bore, and with a 3.8" stroke sounds like a good bore to stroke ratio. So you get your cake and eat it too...you get more bore and stroke
Just did the math, the 3.825 crank with 4.125" bore make a 409 cube motor.

I'm doing an iron 6.0L at 4.030 with a 4" crank = 408ci....then I'm gonna ram it with a 94mm turbo. So 1100-1200 RWHP will happen.........

I was told by a builder the Compstar is made in China and finished here in the USA. The Dragonslayer is made and finished here in the USA.

I was just quoted today for the Compstar crank and rods, Diamond pistons, rings and pins......completely balanced ready for install....$2700

Dragonslayer crank and Ultra I beam rods, Diamond pistons, completely balanced = $3840

Think I definitely need the Dragonslayer.........I was told its made here and uses more pure steel..........but I don't know.......
I'll start a thread asking...........I have to make a decision this week.

^^^sounds like a nice setup you're going with, congrats. I just got an email about 3 hours ago from Beau Novak at Scoggin/Dickey. The said they sell the 3.85" Callies crank. Here's a cut and paste of their email to me:

Callies makes a 3.825" stroke crank we keep in stock for $549.95. No
3.800" that I am aware of.

Pretty good price if it's made here in the USA.
I just replied to their email asking them if the crank is made in the US. See what they say.

Another $200 for balancing and thats a great price......I would only have a 390ci. though......really wanted the 408ci to get that 94mm spinning.

I wonder if its good for 1200 HP.

That is a Compstar crankshaft NOT a callies dragonslayer

Callies built the 3.800" dragonslayer crankshaft exclusively for AES when we put in a volume order.

Callies forgings (not compstar) come from Japan and are finished machined and hardend in US at Callies.

Thanks for replying. So is the 3.8" crank still available?
I like the idea of adding more stroke to the 4.125 bore for a total
of 406 cubes. That's respectful.

Compression Height = Block Deck Height - (Rod Length + 1/2 stroke)

Based on your crank and rods you'll need a 1.2025" Compression height Check this out http://www.lunatipower.com/Tech/Pist...ionHeight.aspx

Thanks guys! The piston I ordered has a 1.205 CH so with the .51 gasket and oring I should be safe.

Default Bob Weight = 1850

Hi, I too sell the China Crankshaft with VERY good luck in BAJA 1000 races. (NO Failures)
The SAME forging as Callies, my guess is the same Bob Weight of 1850.

When this is matched to our rods, pistons, pins, it could require a Bob Weight of 1835, if so NO Balance required, just MATCH rod and piston weights.
