Default cam /converter choice suggestion help, stock. in 82 vette

I'm not really concerned with performance, i would like it to lump-lump. I wont ever sell this thing, ( i still have my high school car, 30yrs ago) i'm putting a 2000 ls1 into a 82 vette. automatic. i just think it would be cool to idle rough.

sure, i would like to just change out a cam. but i'm prepared to do a kit. for that matter, i dont mind keeping in the stock converter. but i guess it comes down to where and what do you want and how much to spend. right now, engine is out of donor car. want to make up my mind over the weekend and start putting this in, ive been reading, oh, if you put a cam in, then you must put in a converter.. eh, i just want it to sound different and not idle so smooth. i do plan on putting headers on it and not doing anything else. if i could just get a lumpy cam and not change anything else, i would just do that, not looking for it to be a race car... just a weekend cruiser...

any input welcomed.

will be parting out a 2000 z28 soon with 45k miles on it.

Well, if you stick with the stock stall you'll want a small cam(under 220/220), otherwise you'll hate driving your car. So I'd start reading up on stalls and find something in the 3200-3600 range, which depends on the cam you choose. You'll also will need new valve springs. Here's a few good choices (needs 3200-3600 stall TC):TSP 228/228 111lsa, TSP 224/228 111lsa, EPS TT3 224/230 111lsa. FYI a small cam that will work good with the stock stall TC won't have that cam sound you want.

1980,1981,1982 Corvettes are the ****. I have a 1981 corvette with 383 stroker (sbc not LS), long tubes strait pipes, no mufflers, turns heads like nothing else. im with bluz28 read up on stalls but you more than likely will find yourself in the 3200-3600 range.

Not sure how big you're willing to go, but the setup I have in my Camaro lopes pretty good. I have the TSP 233/239 112LSA. I run it with a 4000 stall, but a 3200-3600 would work well with it. There's plenty of videos of what it sounds like on youtube.

As for a vendor for both. Check out Texas Speed (texas-speed.com) or Thunder Racing (thunderracing.com).

Regarding the stall, you'll have to choose your cam first. If the vette is just road then a good 3200>3600 will do nicely. Yank SS series is real good.
As for lope it is a matter of overlap and not only mammoth durations or lift. You can have a late 220s early 230s cam that lopes pretty good.

Go with one of the Thumper cams (made by Crane maybe?), they are designed for the rough idle sound and one may be able to use the stock/stockish converter. If you want to step it up some I'd consider a $400 Circle D 11 inch converter or similar from Yank/FTI and match it with TSP's 220r or 224r cam. To go up a tad more towards performance, a 228r and an SS3200 or SS3600 would be a nice combo that would have some scoot to it.
