Default What to coat cam with for install?

I am going to be putting my cam in this weekend and i know most people just coat it in motor oil, however it will probably be at least a week before everything is buttoned up and it is ready to be fired up. So will oil be alright or should i use some type of assembly lube?

I used oil on mine and didn't have a problem. I think it'll be just fine with motor oil.

Assembly lube is good stuff sticks really well.
It would stay better than regular motor oil.

If you will be starting the motor up right after you finish the install, oil will work just fine. If it will be a few days before it is fired up, some assembly lube would be prefered.

I used motor oil. Didn't fire car up for over a week.. no problems. I think whatever you choose will work. Just be sure to coat it very well to where its just freakin soaking and you'll be fine. Assembly oil would be a good safety net tho

Cam lube for sure. Why take a short cut for something that is less than $10. What if something went wrong with the install and no oil is getting to the cam on start up? The lube would give u a fair safety margin for those valuable first couple of minutes.

Assy lube with moly in it. No sense in not protecting your investment. Might not be necessary, but what if you have 0 pressure at start up from a bad oring, or you screwed something else up during the assy? Protect your investment!

So what does everyone do when their car sets for more than a week without starting it? Tear the motor down and coat everything with assembly lube???

You will be fine just using oil.

it's just old school mentality.. let them be I see no benefit in going through the extra trouble of using lube on any roller cam.. The what if's were amusing to read though...
