Default TSP 224R questions

Hey guys, had a couple questions about choosing a camshaft. I was originally planing on doing an LS6 cam but after some searching, I'm thinking about going a little bigger. I'm really leaning on going with Texas Speed's 224R Camshaft package. I currently daily drive my 2000 Camaro M6 with Pacesetter Longtubes, TSP catted Y and LID. I don't plan on going to the track, I'm just looking for some more power. What gains will I see with this package and what kind of MPG can i expect after the swap. How does this cam sound at idle? Any help would be great

That cam will have a very broad power band with lots of low end and mid range pick up. They work great for daily driver cams because of this. If you get the cam on a 112 LSA it will have a pretty noticeable idle. Obviously not as crazy as some of the bigger cams, but no way anyone would be able to tell you its stock. We mail order tune these cams all the time so I am sure Frost can handle it.

+1 for the 112. The 114 will sound almost stock.

The 114 LSA compared to the 112 will have a higher power band and a smoother idle. The 112 will have a choppier idle and a lower power band. We are typically looking to pick up around 30rwhp with all the proper bolt ons.

Great all around cam that has proven itself many times..

But honestly, go with the TSP 228/228 instead. I would not go any smaller than a 228/228.

Will I get a lot less drive-ability with the 228 vs 224?

Not at all, IMO the 228R is one of the best daily driver cams we can offer. Comparing to the 224 it might have a tad bit less low end but its barely noticeable in a partial throttle situation. Once tuned the 228R should be just as drivable.

You could also opt for a 224/228 cam on whatever LSA you like. This would be a great compromise between the 224r and 228r cam. Texas Speed could hook you up with a 224/228 cam as well. It would be great for daily driving, give you gobs of lower and mid range torque and still carry till around 6000 rpms. If you get it on a 111 or 112 LSA, you'll have great chop too.

I had the 224R on a 114, and I was REALLY happy with it! It made 350/352 through a stalled auto. That was unlocked, with STOCK manifolds/cats, and LM1 catback. It did have a noticeable idle even on a 114 though.

I've had my 224r for about a year now. Perfect dd cam. Nice lope at idle (112 LSA). I drive my car everywhere, while its not a DD, I treat it as such. It barely affected my MPG's, maybe going from 19 to 17 in the city but still getting 26 on the freeway (of course thats when I can resisit putting my foot into the throttle). I originally wanted a 228r but fell into such a great deal on the 224r that I couldn't pass it up. Absolutely no regrets.
