Question reuse or get new dowel pins for heads?

got my 317 heads back from the machine shop. cleaned and a 3 angle valve job. is it okay to reuse the dowel pins or is it best to get new ones from the parts store? did a search on here and google but did not get an answer.

TIA

currently what the motor looks like right now(painted the block primer gray)

noob question but does the dowel pins get tapped or pressed into the heads or into the block? or doesnt really matter just so long they're being used?

TIA

You can tap a new pin in with a mallet. I have heard of people getting the old ones out with a thread die.

checked the head bolt holes on both sides to clean out anything in there and noticed the bottom 3 were dry(thats good right?) using a paper towel rolled really thin to squeeze in there. the upper 3 however i noticed the paper towel picked up oil, about an inch deep. is that normal and i should keep at it using the paper towel to pick up all of the oil until its dry correct? the upper outer holes were dry FWIW.

Stop with the paper towels in the bolt holes. Pick up a set of engine cleaning brushes and use compressed air to blow them out. There is a thread about a guy losing half a paper towel in a bolt hole.
