Exclamation Cam choice w/ported 799's

I currently have a VRX4 and Ported 5.3's that are decked 30,000ths running 11:1 compression in my 01 TA/M6. I have a pair of ported 799's w/ 650 doubles and titanium retainers. I would like to know if anyone thinks the VRX4 i have in it now will be suffice? I want a bigger cam, but I do not want to have to flycut the pistons. With the VRX4 / 5.3 Heads / stock intake and TB I put down 397hp and 377tq on a mustang dyno.

My plan, as of now, is putting the 799's on w/ an under-drive pulley and 85mm ported TB. Will I make up HP from the loss of compression with these? Do you think I will be in the same ball park? Also, should I go with a bigger cam?

We have a very similar setup except I'm running 241 p&p heads. I think you'll stay pretty close to the same power. If you lose or gain it wont be enough to worry with. I vote to keep the cam you have. It's a nice sized cam IMO.

That cam will be fine with the 799 heads. I would mill the new heads some to keep the compression up. I would think you would gain around 10-20rwhp. The VRX4 is a good cam. I dont think I would switch it out. If you go bigger you will lose some low end response. I had the VRX3 in my Z28 and have the VRX5 in my T/A. The smaller cam is better for drivability but the bigger cam makes more power in the upper RPMs. It is a tradeoff. It also depends on the details of your setup. Rear gears, M6 or auto, etc
