2004 GTO LS1 - What's the hole just in front of the valley cover for?

2004 GTO LS1 - What's the hole just in front of the valley cover for? 2004 GTO crate motor I'm putting in the Panoz. Notice the hole just in front of the valley cover on the driver's side.
The LS6 in my 2001 Z06. No hole.
It doesn't go "into" anything, it's just a hole. Is there something the GTO uses it for? Or is this hole on all later LS1/LS6 block castings?

I just went out and took pics of the LS1 in my 04 GTO, hope this helps...
I don't see a hole in mine, it looks like the LS6 in my GTO.
