Default What is a good step up from a 224/230 cam?

Ive been rocking the LG G5 cam now for 2 years in my 04 GTO M6. Nothing really wrong with it, just want to see if I can move on to something "better". it is a 224/230 .581 .57x 112 If I remember correctly. My car is not a track car, mostly street car.

I want lots of low-mid range power and still have a good pull to redline. I have 243 heads, LT headers,. I put down 394/394 uncorrected with this cam on a stock maf, paper factory filter/stock box, no udp. I want to be around 430rwhp or so, no particular reason for that number..

What cam would be worthwhile to switch to? I like this cam just wish it had more pin u back power, it drives like stock, well almost stock, which is good..

If you want lots of low to midrange power I would go with a tighter lsa(109-111) and around a 227-231 duration on the intake lobes and around a 230-234 on the exhaust lobes.
So what's the ICL (intake centerline) of you current cam?

You could go bigger, but you'll be giving up lowend power for sure!

The G5 (224/230) is only listed as on a 114lsa.
If you have the Cam card find out what the ICL is.

seems like it would get up and move in the higher rpm range but that cam has 11* of overlap, might kill your bottom end. still should scream like a banshee over 3k

A buddy of mine has a 06 gto ls2 he got a cam in his and ported tb and intake with stock valve springs and everything he makes like 415 at the wheels on a 218 duration with .546 lift 113.5 lsa and plus 4 degees advance. He was telling me if i got a ls2 cam i could send it off where he did his and have it grind to his specs and i could keep my stocks stuff but since my car has 69,000 miles im worried about that any advice would help

Thanks!

I don't think going up in cam size and maintaining low end are an option. You have to be willing to give somewhere.

Leave it alone. A cam big enough to gain you some power will cost you low end.

You will end up spending a decent chunk of money on something that will help marginally at best.

If you can spare the money, send your heads out to be worked.
It's the most direct way to achieve the power you want.

GTO's are heavy, as others have said I wouldn't recommend going to a bigger cam as you want to retain a good amount of average power in a set-up like this.

Again as others have said going up in cam size will net maybe 10-15rwhp if that even and you'd be giving up average power to do so.

Thanks for the advise, I think it might be prudent to look else where for more power, just wanted to see if a cam swap might get me 25hp over the current cam. i will get that UD pulley, LS2 maf, and a legit catback and see if that gets me more snap when i hit the gas. Maybe a fast intake down the road.

Don't waste your money on a MAF...either keep your stock maf or delete it and go SD tune. I think the only way you will get what you want is to do a head end intake swap...like said above, a bigger gem will give you dome more HP, but make it less streetable and drop low end power
