Default What is the most reliable and quietest springs?

What is the most reliable and quietest springs? And how much do they usually cost? I'm running 2002 LS6 springs and they are kinda loud at certain speeds.

OEM springs are going to be the quietest for a valvetrain... anytime you step up with better springs that can handle more lift and more aggressive ramps, you're going to get more noise.

It's certainly not uncommon for a heavier-duty valve spring to be louder, especially with the more aggressive camshafts. The dual valve springs that we've been having the best luck with are the Patriot Performance valve springs. They offer a complete spring kit that comes with their stock-diameter dual valve springs, titanium retainers, hardened spring seats, valve stem seals, and Super 7 locks that we retail for $295.00. We've sold quite a few sets and run them on our own cars, and the work incredibly well. Crane offers a great dual valve spring, too, but they have right at 20 lbs. less seat pressure than the Patriots, and the Patriot springs can safely handle .650" lift. It's also hard to beat for the price!

Feel free to give us a call or e-mail me at trevor@texas-speed.com if you have any other questions.

Trevor,
Would you recommend the PP duals with a g5x-2 cam and Y/T roller rockers....trying to avoid valve float and I've heard the 987's don't always cut it.

spring pressure:
-PP 135/380
-987 130/325

99SilveradoSS... With your cam's lift .530/.530 you don't need a heavier duty valvespring as the 02 LS6 springs are perfectly up to the task of handling that lift. As Tranzor mentioned earlier any time you upgrade to a heavier duty spring you will increase the level of valvetrain noise. It's a tradeoff for added performance. There's no guarantee that another set of springs will cure the noise. More than likely they won't.

The Patriot dual valve springs would work great with the G5X2 camshaft. We've run .615" lift on the valve springs with no problems on some pretty aggressive ramp profiles. I was able to spin the engine to 7,000 RPM without any valve float problems.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

VHP began LS1 valve spring r&d in 1997. We found factory springs to be quite noisy which caused the knock sensors to pull several degrees of timing between 4800 and 5500 rpm. After extensive testing and retesting the available aftermarket springs, VHP and Crane Cams developed the quietest spring set we have seen to date. The spring holds 112 pounds at 1.800 and 330 pounds at .600 lift. We have retainers in steel and titanium, with .050 offsets in both directions, allowing for camshafts up to .650 lift. We developed a trick "id". spring locator which requires no machine work to the head for installation. The combination of these locators and new valve spring tool make spring swaps a breeze, even on those hard to reach areas in an Fbody. We know of no instances of spring breakage with these spriings.

Patriot & Crane springs work really well for us. Your right though about aftermarket springs adding alot of noise... We sell alot of the Patriot & Crane spring kits, but with that much lift you could also kick around the Manley singles, we sell them for 219 with springs & titanium retainers!
