Default prc 2.5 5.3L vs stock 243's

i did quite a bit of searching and read a bunch of old threads comparing prc 5.3 vs prc ls6, but, never found the answer to my question.

i have a 98 t/a that i am about to put a TQV2 in. i have full bolts ons, SS3600, 125 wet shot.

i am looking at installing a set of heads to compliment the TQV2 that i will be installing. the car is a DD (but only like 5 miles per day) i was suggested from TSP to go with the prc 2.5 LS6 heads but im thinking i want to save a few dollars.

so i was wondering how much of a difference will there be between the PRC 2.5 5.3L heads versus a set of stock 243s??

30rwhp would be my guess. I would go with TSPs recommendation for ported LS6s. If you're willing to spend an extra thousand for ported 5.3s over stock 243s go ahead and spend an extra couple of hundred for the better ones.

probably 25-30 rwhp, more if you up the compression ratio.. plan on that cam being a dog at stock CR. I had the prc 5.3's and tqv2 and made 420/410 with ls1 intake at stock CR (previous owner setup) More compression would have made it a much better combo

The Stage 2.5 5.3's will be worth an easy 35-40rwhp over your stock LS1 heads, and about 25-30rwhp over a stock LS6 head.

Hmmm I wonder how the stage 1 ported ls6 heads would compare and hold up to the stage 2.5 5.3's?

They are very close in power. If it is for MY vehicle, I still like the Stage 1 LS6's over the 5.3's. The LS6's ports are laid out better in factory form (and that remains after porting) and make just a bit better power consistently.

if buying a set of used prc 2.5 5.3L heads, is there any way to actually confirm they are said heads and not a set of stock ones that someone cleaned up with a dremel?

You would have to be pretty talented with a dremel to imitate it. PRC is inscribed on the corners as well as Precision Racing Components on the exhaust side edge.

The PRCs are CNC ported. I would be amazed at the guy that can duplicate CNC with a dremel.

That's depressing lol. I just bought a set of 5.3's like a month ago.

I think the 5.3 heads are a steal. If you have a tight budget they are a good choice. I made pretty decent power with them on top of a stock bottom end 6.2

you get good springs with the prc 5.3 heads for the money.

I love the 2.5s on mine. I got them from TSP through Lashway Motorsports milled to 62cc.
Combined with a TSP228R cam I put down 440rwhp. Considering the nice dual springs that come on it and the bump in compression they are a great choice for a budget build that will still make awesome power.

I Love my 2.5 5.3 heads. TSP milled them down to 61cc and w/ OEM headgasket I'm at 11.1 CR I gained 38rwhp and 30rwtq from the head swap alone. For the money with the dual springs and paired up to a small/mid size cam. The hp per dollar is a tough combo to beat.
