Default Piston retainer ?

Hello all..! Posted this on PT.net, and am still a little confused. Hoping to find a little more insight here. So I'm doing a rebuild on an 05 LQ4 engine, and I separated the rods from the piston for cleaning. When I was putting it all back together decided it was a good idea to replace the C Clips holding the wrist pin. Sounds easy right? Well GM wants $15 per clip and cheapest I've found is $8 at GMParts.com, but that's still $128 for something I should be able to find at a hardware store for pennies on the dollar. The dimensions are 0.918" I.D.x .062" thick. Summit sells one from Mahle that is .927x.067. That's the closest I have gotten on the Internet to my exact dimensions, would I be okay going with this? Should I just re-use my stockers? I know with internal engine modifications it's better to be spot on, last thing I want is to throw a wrist pin into the cylinder wall. Or dang it maybe I'm just over thinking this!

P.S. what's the consensus on Wrist pin Teflon buttons? Any thoughts for added insurance, or just hype?

Just reuse your stock ones, they are like a spring steel so they will be fine.

Yeah that's what im leaning towards... From what I've read it's not usually the clip that fails. GM I believe says to replace them, and generally do what m told.... Sure but not for $250!
