Talking first startup a4 2.73's patriot 5.7's tsp 231/237

at about 12am this evening we started the car up after doing the head/cam install over the last 5 days...we did one heat cycle on the springs but man does it sound badass as hell...i definitly need to drill out the tb to get it to idle cuz it died several times just going around the block after it warmed up...it got to around 228F...thats with the stock thermo though so i dont really find that odd. Its about twice as loud as it was before the install. Next tuesday i go for my tune at cartek...hopefully they will hook me up man i love how this thing idles though hehe. My hosts are crap so if anyone can help post up some vid I'd be willing to send it your way.

I would look at putting in a 160 stat. It'll really help with tuning.

cheers,
Chris

i do have a question though...i let it warm up to temp and took off the plug for the front coolant bypass line and let the system bleed out...does it have to be a rolling stream or just dripping like mines doing? Ive really got to drill out the tb more to keep it idling ive got it done one size larger than stock now otherwise it really wants to die and i dont think its even driveable in gear lol. Thanks guys

Just dripping should be fine I think...and I agree with above...the tune should fix the idle and everything else, you just have to get it up there

I drilled mine slightly and manually turned my idle up a little until I could get it tuned. Seemed to work fine for me.

Congrats on the new set-up..Just finished mine a couple weeks ago.

Tuning is a must with that large of a cam, even with the hole enlarged I had Jason at TSP do some fine tuning with the start up. I am sure Cartex will do you right. They are a top notch shop.

If you still want some one to host a video for you, you can E-mail me the video. The video needs to be trimmed to 1Mg or less. If you want to you can send a couple of them to me.

davidbr57105@yahoo.com

Good luck on the new set-up. I am sure you love it. Can't wait for the track to open up here.

learn to brake/gas the car down there, really, they should be able to tune it perfectly for cold starts warm starts, but if they are not familiar with the setup, how many cold winter starts, and warm up start tunes are included? It could be that the car runs great till winter. Of course a great tuner would probably have this ironed out already and copy a similar tune over thats been hammered out (cold and warm).

Let us know about the cold/warm/hot restarts and idle rpm, and driveability (time to when you can drive without brake pedaling it to avoid stall). please. I'd like to know.

Cartek knows tuning, I'm sure they will do a great job! Congrats on the setup, I think you'll really like it! That 231.237 is hard to beat

yah the cam sounds great and is very driveable even without a tune to be honest as long as you mess with the idle screw a bit...i only drilled the tb one larger size so its still not messed with too much but man does it sound nasty. So yah for all the auto guys out there...just get a vert and you'll be fine
