9000 RPM should net a large increase in HP. You are pretty much increasing air intake by 30% over that stock motor. Therefore you should be making around 25% more hp than a similarly sized motor. (torque automatically drops due to its nature. - gearing changes this)

I highly suggest you get a rod as light as possible. The typical rod you can buy off the shelf weighs in very heavy. Ask each manufacturer if they have a light version, and what they would suggest for that RPM. - Same for Rod bolts.

Plus to add to 95ONE's post you will pay more for them, but the I beam rods are stronger ounce for ounce than H beam rods so they can be made just as strong but lighter....just have to dig a hair deeper in your pocket for them....but, just so you know there are some of us spinning standard style forged cranks and H beam rods up to and over 8,000 and keeping our motors together, so if you go lighter I see no problem hitting 9,000 or even 10,000+ rpms.

I was hoping there would be some updates on this since the OP had ordered the crank and what not.

Not all that much. Bottom end is sorted out and figured. I should have the crank here this month or next. It was supposed to take 4-5 months and they bumped me back because they had rush orders and I was not in a rush. Here are some basic details that are figured out below on the build. I am throwing in a stock LS1 at first to get it all running and fine and then put in the flat plane later. Hoping for summer/fall time when the car is all built and ready, but who knows with all the racing and building I am doing right now and how life keeps on coming up all the time. I also need to save up for money for head to do it right. In the enginen simulator it should make about 650-700hp at about 8000 rpm and 450-480tq from 4500-8500. Should be an interesting engine when I finally get to finish it up. I will throw some pictures up of the crank and pistons once I get it here. I plan to start building the car in April sometime as I am finishing up my Mini now and have 6 weeks or races at VIR, WGI and Summit.

bottom end
LS3 block 4.065 bore
Stroke 3.0
Custom JE domed pistons FSR 1.5/1.5/3.0 @400-425 grams
R and R rods 6.560 long @550 grams
1.889 bottom end and .927 top end
flat plane crank - @ 38lbs
ATI balancer
Cam- custom - .381 lift 240/248@.050 solid roller cam
Cometic MLS HG .040 compression 11.3

Heads
243 LS6 castings
TEA CNC porting
2.10 intake Ti valves 7mm
1.63 exhaust Ti valves 7mm
Bery valve seats
new valve guids
Daul valve springs 300#+ seat 600#+ open Custom
Ti retainers
T&D rockers 1.7 or 1.8, not sure yet
rpm - 8200-8500 max or maybe even higher, we will see what hp.

Intake-
Not sure yet, options below
Fast- with custom short runners inside and 90mm tb
Custom short runner with plenum tapered and dual TB's on the sides for mid engine setup
ITB's - we will see which or I might work on making my own if possible

EMS- Megasquirt 3 pro

Headers
Custom 1.75" each side 4-2-1-2 with dual mufflers, maybe cross over pipe. So (4)1.75 to (2) 2.5 to (1) 3.0 to (2) 2.5 to (2) 2.5 mufflers. I am trying to copy the Honda HSV-010 exhaust design as they did a lot of research for the sound. Youtube that engine, not that this will sound the same, but can give an idea.

I am still undecided on the oil pump and timing chain setup. I need to look into that a bit more. I do have an accususmp just in case and will have oil coolers.

Nothing very exciting. Finishing up some other projects as I have way to many at one time now. Soon though.

I did get the cam and pistons already. The crank is almost done. I had other things going on so they are waiting on the final stage because they had rush orders and I said I was ok with waiting if needed. They said it will be here in June. Then I need to keep on gathering items as needed to build it. It now depends no when I have the money to finsih it up. I am nibbling at the parts piece by piece so it will happen.

Next items to buy,
Con Rods
LS3 block.

Youre going to spend a **** ton of money on an itb intake or a custom epoxied fast that wont run out of breath at 8k and above. If it doesnt have enough air it doesnt matter how high you spin it, power will fall off fast when the intake becomes a restriction
Id look into a single plane style intake and a 4500 tb or something similar. If its going in a track car it really doesnt matter that it will lose some power down low.

The intake plan is to make my own now. Dual plenum, dual tb that come out the sides for fitment issues in my mid engine application. I will be fabing up myself so cost should not be all that high, it is just time to do it all.

This is going to be an interesting build. If you are not stuck on the cathedral port head, Harrop makes an ITB that would keep your engine happy up to 9k.

I want an SLC so bad. And a flat plane crank to boot!! Why not run some BME/GRP aluminum rods? 1.75" headers going to be enough for 9K rpm? You'll probably need the jesel JS3's (custom order) for over 8K rpm, J2S are a little heavier over the nose. No dry sump?!? Or did I miss that? There's no way I'd go hyd roller on that setup. Is that what Pat recommended?

That'll be cool. Can't wait to see it. Sorta like a Lamborghini V12, only two instead of four.

Luv running across this type of build. It's unique & interesting. I already forgot half of what was posted. So, have you confirmed that the transmission is happy @ 9K RPM?

I think ITB's would be nice, but I do not have much space out back on the SLC for them to come up too high. Also, the cost as I would rather spend that money on the heads. The dual plenum dual TB should flow really nice and then I can make the intake with the runner length I want for high rpm's and be fine. Plus part of the build that is fun for me is the build up and design part so making my own intake adds to the value for me. The TB will come out the side like that on the lambo pic, just one per side.

I looked at Alum rods and called 3-5 of them who make them, each time they said do not do alum for a road race application due to the engine braking and higher rpm stresses on them. The lightness would be nice, but not if it kills the engine. The R&R and crower are in the 500-550 gram range each and will be fine. The domed pistons came in around 420grams.

You should probably be thinking dry sump and ignition upgrades.
