Default stock ls1 piston with valve relieves???

I took the heads off my car to do a head H/C swap. Well today i started to clean the carbon build up on the piston and they have small valve reliefs on the intake side. Is this normal on a stock ls1? i always though the pistons were completely flat. My car is a 98 z28. are these stock?

ill try to upload some pics later, judging by the size ill say they were self clearance but i checked the valves on the heads and they all look good, also there are no cracks on the pistons, just that small relief on the intake side. Now was thinking if that could affect something since ill be running N2O on the car. what do you guys think?

Those look like the original head gaskets too, curse them well, cleaning up that mess. Since it is an original looking gasket, I doubt the heads have been off the car to check the valves, or fix anything after that PTV collision. Do you know what cam was in the car?, does it have stock valve springs?

the car had stock heads, and stock valve springs as well as a stock cam so i thinks it was over revved as stated above ..for the gasket i used a scraper to take off the old gasket residue...but whatever is left is not coming off easily,is there a better/faster way to clean the deck? also would those pistons cause a problem?

Be careful using anything other than plastic ice scraper or credit card to take that stuff off. The aluminum block is soft and if damaged, the gaskets will leak.

i was using a plastic scraper, but i couldn't take much off the old gasket, so i switched to the metal...i removed as much as possible being careful, but i just dont wanna risk it, with whats left of the old gasket.
